Reflecting on My Learning Experience

Several ideas were highlighted in this course, but the most interesting to me was the application of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in healthcare. Of all these points, the fact that data-driven systems can enhance patient care and outcomes was the most appealing. I would like to know the uses of EHRs and telehealth tools, as they opened my eyes to how they help improve efficiency and personalization of patient care. With advanced education in the future, I will implement these technologies in my nursing practice in a healthcare setting, helping me improve care coordination and patient education and promote evidence-based decision-making (Shao et al., 2022). For example, I plan to increase the use of telehealth tools to better serve patients in rural areas and ensure they have digital means to contact providers for further follow-up care.

Attaining Program Outcome

The learning activities of the course, in cases and group projects, pertain to Program Outcome 5, which is advocacy for health-promoting outcomes through humane, evidence-based, and collaborative advanced nursing practice. These activities helped me learn how to think critically, evaluate evidence, and put this into practice (Awad et al., 2021). For instance, group debates on the ethical use of ICT and assignments on the appropriate use of technology in patient care help develop the required virtues of compassion while preserving technical competency. As a continuation of these findings, I propose to continue encouraging and advocating for patient-centered care solutions, with a focus on technology that is useful in modern practice, without neglecting empathy and teamwork.

Achieving AACN Essentials Competency 8.1 Sub-Competency

I found 8.1g, determining preferred sources of information and instructions on the use of the ICTs, mainly useful in care. While taking the course and writing the assignments, which involved database searches and analysis of peer-reviewed articles, I gained the skills to identify credible evidence of technology adoption in the healthcare sector. For example, thinking about EHR systems from the perspectives of patient safety, ease of use, and financial impact has given me the background to promote evidence-based ICT adoption in healthcare. In the next practice setting, I will apply this competency to ensure that any technology used in practice is evidence-based and aligns with the specific patient care objectives to enhance patient outcomes and organizational functioning.
