What motivated you to pursue your chosen field of study?

My motivation to join the nursing profession can be traced to a deep-rooted desire to make a major difference in the most important stages of the lives of individuals. During my childhood, I could watch how my relatives had to face medical challenges, and this experience made me see how medical professionals, who managed to be caring and understanding, can change patients and those close to them. I was particularly touched by the medical personnel and the staff who were especially helpful when it came to clinical treatment, but they also offered emotional counselling and representation to those people who needed it the most. Based on the idea of Florence Nightingale that patient care is both science and creativity, nursing requires full commitment and training as strict as any other artist or craftsperson (Lima et al., 2022). To become artists in this field, a professional in healthcare should invest in strict training and continuous improvement. The medical profession can offer me a unique chance to utilize my skills in the area of helping to heal, prevent, and enable people to reach optimal health outcomes.

How do you define your professional identity? What are the core values, beliefs, and goals that guide your work?

The aspect of being a caring advocate and a research-focused clinician focused on holistic patient health forms my nursing career identity. My responsibility is to treat all patients with respect, care, and cultural sensitivity and to practice medicine on a higher standard. My basic nursing ideals include truthfulness, caring, lifelong learning, and collaborative work with the patient that promotes patient safety and excellent outcomes. As defined by the American Nurses Association, healthcare practice entails the protection, progress, and development of health and functional capacity (Naegle et al., 2023). My overall goal is to provide person-centered care that may include not only the physical needs but also emotional and psychological health. I strive to become a nursing student who is forever curious, open to innovation, and a reliable source of information to patients, families, and peers to achieve health and healing.

How do you think DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) influences your attitudes, beliefs, or actions as a professional?

The DEI principles essentially influence my practice in healthcare through the provision of culturally competent and equitable care to all patients, irrespective of their backgrounds. I understand that different ideas can empower nursing teams and achieve better patient outcomes due to the improved perception of different cultural needs and experiences. Equity motivates me to work as a nursing learner in order to give equal opportunities to all patients to access quality healthcare resources and treatment opportunities. My inclusion is based on active listening to the specifics of the patient’s story, consideration of possible biases, and appropriate adjustment of my approach to interaction. According to Liu et al. (2020), the notion of cross-cultural proficiency reflects the ability to work harmoniously with individuals with different ethnic backgrounds. I believe embracing diversity provides a more accepting healthcare environment in which all patients perceive respect and understanding. Through continuous self-reflection and learning, I aim to eradicate healthcare disparities and promote social justice in every professional encounter.

What are some of the challenges or expectations that you anticipate in this program?

I would expect the program to pose some serious academic challenges, hence the need to have good organizational skills and the capacity to relate theoretical skills with practical clinical experience. The intensive coursework will require critical thinking, evidence-based decision-making, and the development of advanced clinical reasoning skills. I anticipate experiencing difficulties in setting and handling the complicated concepts of health care, and at the same time achieving high academic standards and competencies. Since experience is a requirement of being an expert, as observed by Lytras et al. (2022), not all experience leads to learning. I expect the emotional requirements of clinical experiences, such as being exposed to human misery and having the responsibility to care for patients. Furthermore, I will acquire effective communication skills, leadership, and the ability to perform successfully in an interdisciplinary healthcare team when operating in the changing healthcare environment.

In professional circles, my goal is to specialize in one field of the healthcare sector, earn superior certifications, and ultimately become a leader in healthcare institutions. I have a long-term objective of leaving a long-lasting positive impression on patient outcomes and improving the nursing profession in terms of excellence, innovation, and caring through compassionate care.
