Throughout the course, some of the significant concepts had a profound effect on my understanding and approach towards the nursing practice. Among these, the principles of evidence-based practice (EBP) and the use of advanced nursing theories stood out prominently. The emphasis on EBP in the course emphasized the importance of using up-to-date research to inform clinical decision-making. Not only does this approach help to improve patient outcomes, but it also ensures that nursing interventions are based on scientifically validated information.

Further, the study of advanced theory of nursing provided a greater understanding of the conceptual frameworks in which the nursing practice is performed. Theories such as ‘From Novice to Expert’ of Patricia Benner (2022) and ‘Theory of Human Caring’ of Jean Watson (Wei and Watson, 2019) have been invaluable in providing information on how to develop nursing skills, as well as the importance of providing compassionate care. As a Master’s prepared nurse, I imagine that I would apply these concepts by rigorously analyzing the clinical research and using it to inform my practice and by fostering a holistic approach to patient care with an emphasis on empathy and human connection.

These activities illustrated the need for interdisciplinary collaboration in order to provide the best patient outcomes. By interacting with other peers of different specialties in the nursing field, I learned to appreciate different points of view and methods, and enhanced my ability to work collaboratively. This experience will be necessary in my future practice, where communication and teamwork are essential in providing comprehensive care.

Compassionate care, which is another facet of Program Outcome 5, was aided by reflective assignments and patient-centered care simulations. To attempt to address the sub-competency relating to developing leadership capacity, specifically 10.3k: “Influence intentional change guided by leadership principles and theories, the course provided several pivotal learning experiences. Through the use of the theories related to change, I learned how to plan and implement change in a healthcare setting. The project highlighted the need to communicate clearly, engage with stakeholders, and continuously assess the intervention to ensure its success (Barger et al., 2019). These are skills that are directly applicable to my future role as a master ‘s-prepared nurse, where I will be expected to lead quality improvement initiatives and advocate for system-wide changes that will lead to improved care of patients.

Additionally, there were opportunities for engaging in peer reviews and evaluations on the course. This was an invaluable experience in terms of developing my ability to provide constructive feedback and helping to encourage the professional development of my colleagues. By engaging in the processes of peer review, I created my critical thinking and evaluative skills that are crucial in a leadership position in nursing.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the concepts and competencies that have been learned over this course have had a significant influence on my approach to advanced practice of nursing. The integration of evidence-based practice, advanced nursing theories, and leadership principles has given me the tools needed in order to advocate for positive health outcomes, promote collaboration, and lead intentional change. As I continue to progress in my career, I am determined to utilize these principles in order to benefit my patients, my colleagues, and to support the nursing profession. This holistic and compassionate approach to nursing will be at the forefront of my nursing practice as a master’s prepared nurse in order to ensure that I provide the highest quality and equal care to all patients.
