In this discussion, I will be putting the focus on quality measures data in the Graves County Community Hospital that offers a wide range of healthcare services to the patients who reside in Graves County, Kentucky. The fundamental aim of a nurse leader in this scenario is to assist the organization in striking a balance between quality care, expenses, and favorable customer results and ensure that the hospital is placed in a stable fiscal situation.
As a nurse leader, I understand that to finalize the client outcomes, there is a need to establish successful, cost-effective, and quality-oriented strategies. One of my primary strategies will be the introduction of Lean principles, which will enable locating and removing the waste in the healthcare processes. The strategy is to attempt to raise efficiency by reducing the redundancy of the workflow and eliminating redundant processes and tests (Bharsakade et al., 2021). Moreover, I would promote the use of Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) as the foundation of clinical decisions and ensure the effectiveness and cost-efficiency of the delivered treatment. My improvement would be through letting the healthcare professionals engage in an interdisciplinary culture of cooperation, which will eventually result in improved patient outcomes and reduced readmission rates.
In the quantification of the cost of quality at the Graves County Community Hospital, I would utilize a few measures, and they would give information about the cost of conformance and non-conformance. The conformance cost encompasses the education of the personnel, the enhancement, and upkeep of the quality of equipment. On the other hand, the cost of non-conformities also includes the cost of bad performance, such as readmission in the hospital; the duration of hospital readmission; and the financial cost of the medical errors (SixSigma, 2024). The patient outcomes are also established on patient satisfaction ratings, infection, and mortality rates. These will help in decision-making as one can know which areas should be improved, and the expenses are kept under control.
The Graves County Community Hospital is limited by its resources, and this is why some new cost-cutting programs will be introduced to enhance the delivery of quality care. Task-shifting technique is a powerful method that has been used, and in this case, I would utilize qualified nursing workers/community health workers to undertake healthcare roles that would have been undertaken by physicians.
It not only eliminates the paperwork that physicians are supposed to complete, but also ensures that the care delivery cycle process occurs in a timely manner (Coales et al., 2023). I would also sell generic drugs, which are, in most instances, cheaper and as effective as brand-name drugs, thereby saving the patients and the medical facility some money in purchasing the medicine. Game-changers may also refer to telehealth solutions and mobile health platforms because, in addition to making care more accessible, they do not require numerous infrastructure provisions.
Such measures will help me to commit to maximizing the cost-effectiveness of the Graves County Community Hospital and foster the idea that the patients will be able to receive high-quality care without jeopardizing the financial situation of the hospital. I will oppose the culture of non-stop development as a nursing leader, where the quality measures will be analyzed on a regular basis, and the innovative solutions will be discussed on how to improve patient outcomes.
