The social factors play an extremely significant role in the developmental course of children and infants. Mental, emotional, and behavioral consequences of the lifetime can be formed with the help of experiences in childhood, the environment surrounding, and socialization. The social worlds of child including relationships, exposure to media, education, and social expectation is multifaceted and dynamic, beginning with the family systems all the way to community resources.
The learned insights into these influences with respect to systems theory can help the practitioners, educators, and parents of these children to enhance positive development and be aware of the risk factors that may hinder development.
Applying Systems Theory in Working with Families and Resources Addressing Child Maltreatment
The systems theory dwells on the fact that people are not born as independent entities, but they are part of systems that are interrelated, families, communities, and societies that interact with each other. Practical uses of the systems theory, in which the family is involved, would involve considering the effects of alteration of one part of the system on the overall system (Abdullah Alqifari et al., 2024).
Indicatively, a parent who is stressed and financially unstable can impair his/her abilities of providing emotional support to the child, which in turn could influence attachment and child behavior. When considering the development of an effective intervention, it is necessary to analyze the family as a whole as a health professional or a nurse, and not the child. An example of this will be providing family-centered counseling or placing the parents under a community support system, and this will address the causal elements of stress that ultimately lead to the elevation of the state of the child (Para et al., 2024).
Social Influences on Childhood Development
One of the most powerful social factors that can influence the development of a human being is peer interaction, as it is linked to peer play, bullying, exposure to media, and school. Peer interaction during early development would be the lesson of collaboration, compassion, and interpersonal conflict (Garcia-Fernandez et al., 2022).
Same-gender friendship raises self-esteem and social competence, whereas the negative consequences may be anxiety, depression, and low academic performance. Additionally, the importance of the media and technology has increased. Excessive screen time and exposure to inappropriate content can result in attention impairment, delayed language acquisition, and social isolation.
Social Development Problems of a Movie Character
According to the character of the character Matilda of the movie Matilda, she suffered extraordinary social development problems as a child. No matter how smart Matilda was, her parents were negligent and emotionally abusive, they could not see her potential and constantly belittled her.
The neglect and absence of parents led to isolation in Matilda who had to seek a sense of belonging and confirmation through her teacher, Miss Honey. Her ability to build positive relationships despite being in an adverse situation is the fact which is referred to as resilience of a person and which is described as the ability of supportive social relationships, such as a caring mentor, to counterbalance the effect of an unpleasant family background. In the experience of Matilda, early social relations are important in shaping the sense of a child and empathy (Iwanski et al., 2022).

One of the most important control factors influencing the development of young babies and children is the social environment, since it is the determinant of emotional, cognitive, and behavioral development. Adopting the systems theory can help professionals consider families in totality and establish interventions that strengthen the entire system.
