Diversity and inclusion are ethical and beneficial practices for social workers. There is a task social workers have to address: how the regimes of privilege, racism, and oppression influence the experiences of humans and social structures (Craig et al., 2021). Knowledge of a personal diversity profile is one of the most significant first steps towards culturally humble and competent practice. Looking at my own settings, family, peers, education, workplace, and social networks, I would further understand the areas where there is diversity in my life and where I need to be more exposed to multiculturalism. Such introspection aligns with the principles of Access, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (ADEI) and the Anti-Oppressive Practice (AOP) framework, which help social workers promote justice and equity across their work.

Diversity in My World

Based on my diversity profile, there is medium diversity in different aspects. The diversity in educational level and socioeconomic status is not great, although most of the population in my family setting shares the same racial, ethnic, and religious background. My colleagues and workplace, in turn, are more diverse, with representatives of other races, cultures, genders, and religions. Both high school and college gave me a more diverse experience, allowing me to see more of the key factors, including race, gender identity, and ability. A more comprehensive approach to diversity, as manifested in this way, broadened my overall perspective and was more culturally accommodating.

Digital and social forces vary widely in terms of their cultures and social interactions with people subscribing to different countries and belief systems (Papadopoulos and Cleveland, 2023). However, the individuals around my closest friends and me tend to focus more on the immediate backgrounds I have. The places I go to, such as community centres and local markets, do not represent marginalised people well. In general, my world is not very diverse, but it could be improved by adding people from different religions, languages, and abilities.

Areas for Expansion

Though I interact with various individuals in academic and business settings, I can confess that it is not so different in community and social events. To support my multicultural awareness, I can take an active role in cross-cultural community events, volunteer with organizations that serve underserved communities, and discuss the inclusion of race, disability, and gender (Vazsonyi et al., 2021). All this will enable me to overcome my natural inclination towards bias and help build a more globalized way of thinking.

Learning ADEI and Anti-Oppressive Practice

Access, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (ADEI) is a comprehensive concept of delivering the equitable inclusion and representation of all people (Kelly, 2023). Hotspots Access does not put anyone at a disadvantage; it offers them the opportunity and resources they need. Diversity acknowledges differences, while equity concerns fairness and justice. Inclusion enables one to fit and be respected. All of these principles will enable social workers to create a space that challenges discrimination and privilege when integrated.

Anti-Oppressive Practice (AOP) is an application of these principles that addresses issues of unequal power and structural injustices that disadvantage disadvantaged groups (Mitchell et al., 2025). The AOP agenda requires social workers to be critical in their analysis of their own positionality, to challenge oppressive systems, and to drive social change. It emphasizes labor relations with clients, in which their lived experiences are valued as sources of power and knowledge.

Application in Practice

When dealing with marginal or oppressed customers, I would start by being culturally humble because I am aware that I am not the authority in the lives of those clients. To bring an intersectional lens to the discussion, I would use it to understand how intersecting identities shape a client’s challenges and opportunities related to race, gender, and class (Mitchell et al., 2025). My planning interventions would be designed to respect the fact that the goals would be jointly acquired, culturally relevant, and constructed in a way that enhances self-determination and reduces systemic barriers. It is one of the practices that follow the principles of ADEI and advocate anti-oppressive, client-centered practice.

Conclusion

Analyzing my diversity profile has helped me better understand how my personal environment influences my professional practice. Even though my environment is relatively heterogeneous, in terms of multiculturalism, I can do more in some ways. Following the principles of ADEI/Anti-Oppressive Practice, I will have the opportunity to treat my clients with fairness, compassion, and respect, ensuring that my profession as a social worker contributes to breaking the inequitable system and building an inclusive society.
